Wow, time flies when you are having fun! Annie reminded me that we'll be meeting our friends Bill and Celia in Monument Valley tomorrow. That means we have to travel about 180 miles east through Navajo Country today.
We spent the night at the historic Marble Lodge, just this side of the Colorado River. The lodge is right next to the Navajo Bridge build across the Colorado in 1929 and the new Navajo Bridge built in 1991 so you can pass a truck on the bridge and not have a panic attack.
After walking across the old bridge and looking 500 feet down to the muddy Colorado, we drove the short distance down to Lee's Ferry. This is the site of the scary ferry that would shuttle wagons and cars across the Colorado. From here on down the river, the Grand Canyon is too wide and too deep to get across.
From here we drove to Page, Arizona where we stopped to look at the Glen Canyon Dam and the deep blue water of Lake Powell.
We made one last stop before overnighting near Monument Valley. We stopped at the Navajo National Monument. Here we looked across the canyon to an ancient Anasazi dwelling. The amazing thing about this city was the entire town of 125 people lived under a huge arch in the cliff.
